Here at the GTVFD, we are always looking for a few good men or women to help build our ranks. There is always something to do, someone to help, friends to make, and fun to be had when you're a member of a fire department. What all does it involve? Well, besides helping with event such as parades, easter egg hunts, gun bashes, bingos, dinner, etc... you get to help people in their time of need. Unfortunately, stuff will happen in our community that needs manpower. Wrecks, fires, flooding, etc... and firefighters swarm like bees to these situations, and you can never have enough caring people lending a helping hand.
So... what's involved?
Training: Well, first off, you need to learn to the job. We do all necessary training within the department. We do not require you to take classes. We do some sort of training once a week, and we do occasional (and optional) specialized training throughout the year.
Volunteer: This is a volunteer fire department. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. If you have three jobs, or if you have ten kids to take care of, don't worry about it. If you want to be a member, we'd still love to have you!
Events: We do all kinds of events and event hosting. We always need help with these. Bingo, dinners, raffles, etc... It's a time to get together with your firemen or auxillary (God bless the auxillary!) friends and chew the fat a little.
Emergencies: This is the meat and potatoes of why most men and women become firefighters. In Gilpin Township, we are busier then you think. When the chips are down and the unimaginable is happening, the fire department is on it's way...
So, when you're ready, print out an application, and mail or deliver it to the fire department. Bring it to bingo, meetings, training, or give it to a friend that you know is involved. We're ready for you...
